What furniture does a dining room need?
A dining table, chairs to match the seat count, a sideboard for serving and storage, and lighting above the table. A rug and a display cabinet complete larger or more formal dining rooms.
How big should my dining room be?
Allow the table plus 90 cm clearance on every side. A six-seat table of 180 x 90 cm needs a room of about 3.6 x 2.7 m. An eight-seat table of 240 cm needs about 4.2 x 2.8 m, and ten to twelve seats need about 5 x 3 m or more.
How do I furnish a dining room for large gatherings?
Choose an extendable table that seats ten to twelve when opened, place carver chairs at each end, and give the sideboard enough length for serving dishes. In larger Gulf villas, a formal dining room for guests and a smaller family dining area often work better than one oversized table.
Formal dining room or open-plan dining?
A formal dining room suits hosting, with a chandelier, a full-length sideboard and upholstered chairs. In open-plan spaces, define the dining zone with a rug and a pendant, and pick chairs that coordinate with the living area.
Should dining chairs match the table?
Not necessarily. Upholstered dining chairs around a stone table, or dark frames around light oak, often look more considered. Repeat one finish, such as the chair legs and the table base, to tie them together.
What furniture goes on the dining room walls?
A sideboard on the longest free wall, with artwork or a mirror above. A glass-fronted display cabinet suits crystal, dinnerware and serving sets, and keeps them free of dust.
What lighting suits a dining room?

What seating works at a kitchen island?
Counter stools with a seat height near 65 cm for islands of about 90 cm, allowing 60 cm of counter per stool. Stools are part of our chairs and stools collection, so they can match the dining chairs.
Which dining table shape suits my room?
Round and square tables suit square rooms and groups of four to six. Rectangular and oval tables suit long, narrow rooms and larger gatherings. Oval tables ease movement around the ends in tighter spaces.
