What bed sizes do you offer?
The Gulf mixes UK, European and US sizing, so we build to your mattress. Common sizes are queen at 160 x 200 cm, king at 180 x 200 cm and super king at 200 x 200 cm. US king (193 x 203 cm) is also available. Confirm your mattress size before ordering.
King or super king for a master bedroom?
A super king suits bedrooms of about 4 x 4.5 m or larger and couples who want more space. A king fits more comfortably in rooms under that size, leaving room for bedside tables and a walkway of at least 75 cm on each side.
Upholstered or wooden bed?
Upholstered beds feel softer, quieter and more hotel-like, and suit headboard-led designs. Wooden beds are easier to clean and suit modern and minimal rooms. Many clients choose a wooden base with an upholstered headboard.
Can I get a bed with storage?
Yes. Beds can be made with a hydraulic lift-up base or side drawers. Lift-up storage holds bulky items such as spare bedding and suitcases. Drawers need 60 cm or more clearance at the sides.
How tall should a headboard be?
Standard headboards are 120 to 140 cm from the floor. Statement headboards run up to 180 cm or wall to wall. Plan bedside tables at the same time, so their tops sit level with the mattress and clear of any headboard wings.
How high should a bed be?
The top of the mattress should sit 50 to 60 cm from the floor, so your feet rest flat when you sit on the edge. Deeper mattresses on high platform bases can exceed this, which suits taller users but makes bedside tables harder to match.
What makes a well-built bed frame?
A solid wood or plywood structure, a centre support rail with floor legs on king and super king sizes, and slats spaced no more than 7 cm apart. This stops sagging and protects the mattress.
What goes at the foot of the bed?
A bench, an ottoman or a chaise longue gives a place to sit and finishes the layout. Choose a piece no wider than the bed and no taller than the mattress top.
What size rug goes under a bed?
The rug should extend at least 50 to 60 cm past each side of the bed, and past the foot if space allows. Under a king bed that usually means 250 x 300 cm or larger.
Bedside lamps or wall lights?
Wall lights free up bedside surfaces and suit smaller tables. Lamps are easier to install and move. Either way, choose warm, dimmable light. Browse our wall lights and table lamps.
