Dining Tables, Questions Answered
Sizes, shapes, materials and lighting, for everyday meals and large gatherings.
What size dining table do I need?
Allow about 60 cm of table edge per person and 90 cm clearance behind each chair. As a guide: 4 seats need a 120 cm round or 140 cm rectangle, 6 seats need 180 cm, 8 seats need 220 to 240 cm, and 10 seats need 260 cm or more. Then match the table to your dining chairs.
What size table seats 8 people?
A rectangular table of 220 to 240 cm by 100 cm seats eight comfortably, three on each side and one at each end. A round table of 150 to 160 cm also seats eight, with easier conversation. The room needs about 90 cm clear behind every chair.
Round or rectangular?
Round and oval tables suit square rooms and groups of four to six, and make conversation easier. Rectangular tables suit long rooms and larger gatherings. For villas that host often, an extendable table covers both daily use and larger dinners.
Is an extendable dining table worth it?
Yes, if you host a few times a month. An extendable table stays compact for daily meals and adds two to four seats when needed. Check that the room can fit the fully extended length with 90 cm clearance, and that leaves store inside the table.
Marble, sintered stone or wood top?
Marble is the classic luxury choice but etches from acids, so it needs sealing and coasters. Sintered stone and ceramic look similar and resist heat, stains and scratches, which suits family homes. Solid wood is warm, repairable and softer on the ear in large rooms.
Is sintered stone better than marble?
For durability, yes. Sintered stone resists heat, scratches and stains, and needs no sealing. Marble offers natural veining that is unique to each slab and develops a patina over time. Choose sintered stone for daily family use and marble for its character.
Pedestal base or four legs?
Pedestal bases give more legroom and suit round and oval tables, where extra chairs can be squeezed in. Four legs or trestle bases give stability to long rectangular tables. Check that legs sit clear of chair positions.
What affects the price of a dining table?
Top material, size and base. Natural marble costs more than sintered stone or solid wood, and larger slabs cost more to source and cut. Extension mechanisms and sculptural bases add to the price. For a quote, message us on WhatsApp on +971 52 525 4646 or email info@enzoliving.ae.
What lighting goes above a dining table?
Hang the bottom of a pendant or chandelier 75 to 90 cm above the table top. The fitting should span about half to two thirds of the table length. For long tables, use two or three pendants in a row. Browse our chandeliers and pendant lights.
What size rug goes under a dining table?
The rug should extend 60 to 75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chair legs stay on it when pulled out. For a 180 cm table that usually means 250 x 300 cm. Choose a low, flat pile that chairs slide over easily.
Where should a sideboard go in a dining room?
On the longest free wall, ideally within a few steps of the table so serving is easy. A sideboard of similar length to the table keeps the room balanced.
